Is my New Zealand Qualification a meaningful, recognized qualification?

The New Zealand Government has put in place strong national quality assurance systems designed to help institutions maintain the quality and consistency of training and assessment programs. All courses, programs and qualifications offered at state institutions must be approved by a quality assurance systems designed to help institutions maintain the quality and consistency of training and assessment programs. All national certificates, diplomas and degrees offered by New Zealand institutions are quality assured to protect your investment in education. It is illegal in New Zealand to use terms like University, degree, polytechnic, national qualification unless approved by NZQA.

Who is responsible for the quality of education?

To ensure that both the Government and individuals are investing in quality education, training and assessment, the Government has set up nationality recognized processes of quality assurance.

There are a number of governments appointed bodies responsible for approving qualifications in New Zealand and for the quality that underpins the delivery of qualifications. These bodies are the:

New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee (NZVCC)
ITPNZ- Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics of New Zealand
Association of College of Education in New Zealand (ACENZ)
All qualifications approved by these organizations will be listed in the New Zealand Register of Quality Assured Qualifications.

Working in New Zealand

Students are Eligible to work up to 20 hours (Approx Earning NZ$8 to NZ$15)/ hour a week. Anyone undertaking a course of 12 months or more is able to apply to work full-time over the summer holidays. International Students who have graduated from a course that would gain points under skilled migrant category are eligible for a 1 year job search permit. Once Graduates have gained work this way, they can go on to apply for either a post-study 2 year work permit or, proceed directly to apply for residency under the skilled Migrant Category.
